Fannie Lou Hamer was born #OnThisDay in 1917. Hamer co-founded the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, which challenged the local Democratic Party’s efforts to block Black voters through violence, literacy tests, and intimidation. #APeoplesJourney

4 Black women crucial to NASA's work & space race from 1930-1970 were honored in a Congressional Gold Medal ceremony. Known as the "Hidden Figures," Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson & Christine Darden were mathematicians & engineers who helped put man on the moon.
