After eight months off for the toughest but best assignment of my life (my little boy), I'm back in the ABC's Washington DC bureau with the awesome team and ready for a big few years.
Inside the fascinating movement to 'Make America Procreate Again' for 7.30. This was my last piece before I take a big chunk of leave... returning to DC early next year to cover this amazing part of the world: youtube.com/watch?v=v_iiB4Ib…
After the horrible incident involving @LaurenTomasi, our crew was tear-gassed and my camera operator shot in the chest with either a rubber or foam bullet. We're both safe but this shouldn't happen to members of the press just trying to do their jobs - youtube.com/shorts/YQTeKaIK9…
Chicago-born Cardinal Robert Prevost is the new pope. The crowd in St. Peter's Square erupted in stunned applause again as it was announced that the Catholic Church, for the first time in its history, had chosen an American man as its leader. cbsn.ws/434kUn9
Next on #ForeignCorrespondent … @L_Day goes to one of the most sought-after pieces of real estate on the planet – Greenland.
Tuesday 6 May at 8pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.
Very excited to share that I’ll soon be moving to Washington DC as North America correspondent with the ABC. I'll miss South-East Asia, its people and their stories but looking forward to working with the fabulous DC bureau team.
UPDATE: A US-funded hospital in a refugee camp near the Thai-Myanmar border has been forced to suspend services as of today, following an order by US President Trump freezing all foreign development assistance for 90 days. (1/4)
For years, the Syrian regime denied that captagon production happened within territories it controlled.
Yet in the first three days since Assad left, we've found industrial-scale captagon trafficking and manufacturing facilities in:
1. Mazzeh Air Base (likely affiliated with the Air Force Intelligence Directorate)
2. Latakia (found at Munther al-Assad's Syria Car Trading Company)
3. Douma (found at a major production facility believed to be controlled by Maher al-Assad--equipped with all of the precursor materials you'd ever need and even pretty chandeliers!)
4. Undisclosed Location (a warehouse affilicated with Maher where captagon pills were dumped)
5. Undisclosed location (a 4th Division HQ facility where bags of captagon were found)
It looks like local community members and opposition forces are incinerating pills and disassembling facilities as they identify them. We should expect much more to come.
