Excited to share our new study in Cell Host & Microbe! We show that bacteria in human saliva and the small intestine can metabolize peanut allergens, reducing IgE binding and anaphylaxis. Patients with higher peanut tolerance harbor more of these microbes. 1/2
Microbiota impact peanut allergy Saliva & jejunum harbor peanut-degrading bacteria(Rothia) that metabolize immunodominant PN allergens. Mice colonized w/Rothia show ⬇️anaphylaxis & allergic patients w/better PN tolerance have ⬆️abundance of these bacteria cell.com/cell-host-microbe/f…

Congrats to Dr. @LiamERondeau from @LabCaminero for winning the Junior Investigator Award! 🦠 Tryptophan is an essential amino acid found in protein-rich foods and cruciferous vegetables 🥦. Dr. Rondeau highlighted the protective role of microbial tryptophan metabolism in mouse models of IBD, with potential applications in dietary interventions in IBD care. #IBDMinds2025

Microbial metabolism of food allergens determines the severity of IgE-mediated anaphylaxis @R_JimenezSaiz @LiamERondeau @Elisaaasm @cam
In this #preprint, we demonstrate that #oral #bacteria can break down food #allergens, potentially influencing their systemic absorption, #IgE recognition, and allergic reactions—including #anaphylaxis. @Elisaaasm @LiamERondeau @AlbertoCaminer7 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Using gnotobiotic and conventional mouse models, we demonstrate that proteolytic microbes that activate PAR2 expand during inflammation, thus worsening colitis through a PAR2-mediated feedback loop. (⅘)
