🧩For years we've wondered why one-time toxic exposure during combat results in drastic gut symptoms decades after initial exposure! (1/4)
🛠️Usually, neural stem cells repair the circuitry of the gut!
🌪️Toxic exposure fuels low-grade inflammation in the gut, especially in its resident macrophage immune cells.
💢 Macrophages amplify inflammation around the neural stem cells - resulting in wonky re-wiring.
This discovery was made possible with @CDMRP funding! Now that we know HOW low-grade inflammation persists, we're working on newer methods to target it (collabing with @nhc_nanomedlab) to improve the quality of life of Gulf War combat veterans!
