ALT PhD position โHigh voltage generation in sliding water dropsโ Water drops on an insulating and hydrophobic substrate can generate electric potentials of kilovolts upon sliding for just a few centimeters. In this project (funded within the DFG-SPP2176 program), tools to experimentally investigate the charge and voltage generation will be developed, assisted by numerical and electrostatic modeling. The goal is to rationalize the Physics and Chemistry happening at the receding three-phase contact line and identify connections to the surface properties, such as the surface potential and the electrostatic double layer at the drop-substrate interface. I am looking for candidates with a strong physics, chemistry or engineering background, ideally with experience in soft matter physics or interface science. Kai was one of the first to extend his help when i first moved to @mpi_polymer to set up the @WeilTanja department with @Seah_Ling. He was an excellent and fully supportive colleague throughout these times. My deepest condolences to his familyโฆ
Unfortunately, Kai Zhang @Kai_A_I_Zhang passed away last week after a short battle with cancer. Kai was a fantastic scientist and colleague and will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with Kai's family and friends in this difficult time.
