Brilliant news. Labour's @HarrietHarman has put forward an amendment to the Hereditary Peers Bill on bishops in the Lords.
If passed, the amendment would mandate that the Government to develop proposals to remove the Lords Spiritual within two years.

Very sorry to learn of the death of a humanist trailblazer, Anna Lo from Alliance, who was the first Chinese parliamentarian in UK history

We had standing room only at our event last night at #LPC24 โ the room was overflowing into the main arena area with guests arriving to hear from @angelaeagle @andrewcopson @AlfDubs @NiaGriffithMP @RuthCadbury and @rach_hopkins. Lots of praise for @Humanists_UKโs stellar work.

One of the big takeaway messages of the fringe from our speakers was just how many humanist campaigns were teed up nicely for success in the recent Kingโs Speech. But thereโs lots of work to get them over the line!
Growing membership = more campaigning = positive social change!

No woman should ever face harassment or intimidation for going to a healthcare appointment.
Nearly ten years ago in Opposition, I called on the Government to introduce buffer zones round abortion clinics.
Now in Government we are acting. On 31 October, it will become the law.

๐ข Protection zones around abortion clinics to be in force throughout the country to protect women from intimidation and harassment.
From 31 October, attempts to influence the decisions of abortion service users or employees within a 150m radius of a clinic will become illegal.

Super impressed with @jessphillips and @YvetteCooperMP on this! It shows the difference when you have a compassionate Labour government.
The arguments put forward to justify Conservative dither and delay on this issue were all made in bad faith. Glad to see the cobwebs cleared.
