Promoting more girls in STEM subjects and women in tech and allied sectors. Campaigning to both smash barriers and for a Labour Government to make this happen.
A huge shout-out to early #LWiT champ @AnnelisseDodds for highlighting proposed changes to @BritishBBank. She's meeting with a coalition of small female business owners to outline @UKLabour’s strategy, once in power, to get more women into #entrepreneurship. We applaud you 👏🌹
Under the Conservatives:
Zero growth in the proportion of women-led small businesses in the past decade.
With Labour:
British Business Bank scheme reform to support women entrepreneurs.
Labour is the party for every woman starting or running a business.cityam.com/labour-to-boost-f…
I want to be the first female Chancellor, close the gender pay gap once and for all - and deliver for women across our country.
Happy International Women's Day! #IWD2024
This #InternationalWomenDay2024 it is more important than ever to recognise the role of women when it comes to science and tech💪
With potential for the first female Chancellor of the Exchequer, @RachelReevesMP, much needed change for UK women and the economy will be realised🌹
🤝We completely agree - a systemic change is needed to reverse the marginalisation of women in tech
At only 26% of the sector's workforce, and similar underrepresentation in senior positions, we must create an ecosystem which welcomes and keeps women in tech roles

❗ New year, same story ❗
❌2022: Women-founded startups accounted for 1.9% of all VC funds
📈2023: early figures suggest minimal improvement
🎇2024: we must work to improve funding outcomes for women-led, tech companies and address the lack of gender diversity
👩💻Women entrepreneurs still face barriers accessing funding. In 2012-22, 80% of capital invested by #AI VCs was raised by all-male teams.

We are in lockstep with Keir Starmer’s ambition for a UK where everyone feels the benefits of growth, under a Labour government with him as Prime Minister 🌹📈
Bridging the tech sector gaps with women's critical perspective can significantly enhance achieving this #WomenInTech
It was great to talk to @Keir_Starmer
tonight in @UKLabour HQ about @LabourWomenTech and my ambition to get more girls as women in #SouthDerbyshire into tech- to help put more money in their pocket and grow the economy. 🧵
Grateful to Liz Williams CEO of @futuredotnowuk for again inviting me to their latest report launch on the need to address the digital skills gap in the workplace.
It was a stellar lineup on the panels with some terrific insight shared.

Pleased to publish a report today proposing how to address the UK's poor record on work-life balance. For our economy and health, we must bring working conditions into the 21st century, by normalising a range of healthy working patters to improve productivity and access to work.
We could not be more excited for what the next @UKLabour government will do to empower women.
We’re so excited to be on this journey…

Labour is the party of women.
We have a gender balanced frontbench, parliamentary party and shadow cabinet.
Labour women delivered the Equal Pay Act, Sure Start and the Equality Act. The next generation will build on that legacy. labourlist.org/2023/11/labou…
More evidence that Tories have let women down over the last 13 yrs—not only in failing to shift the dial to increase #womeninSTEM—but with misogynistic language behind closed doors, and outright neglect of women’s needs during COVID.

New @fawcettsociety research finds 1/5 "tech bros" think women less suited to job in tech. But women must be included in AI workforce & AI development for good of the sector. Otherwise will entrench existing bias. Read my speech @AISummitFringe here: assets.nationbuilder.com/lab…
Two key tests for Rishi Sunak at the AI Summit:
(1) Will he do anything about the current impact of AI on work and people’s lives?
(2) Will he win international agreement on Britain’s role on tech regulation in the future?
Failure will mean the summit itself has failed.
