So, while we were at the park today, a little boy picked up a bandaid and says "mama look, from the Doctors!"
I was standing right there watching my girl go down the slide.
Mom goes "oh yeah, it's amazing what they remember." Turns to me and smiles.
It just made me feel sad that children associate bandaids with the Doctor's office. My daughter associates them with "boo boos" because she's never received a bandaid at a Doctors office.
Made my stomach turn and I was about to say something but she turns to me and goes 'hey, we have a new Baptist church that just opened up and we would love for you and your family to check us out or if you know someone that is looking for a new church to call home" she proceeds to hand me a flyer and a card.
I smiled and took the flyer from her and figured I better ask now before we potentially waste one another's time so... I said "can I ask what your churches thoughts are on abortions?"
She immediately says "we believe it's murder but also understand that in some circumstances it has to be done for the life of the Mother or say a young girl who was assaulted."
I then asked "how do you feel about the use of aborted fetal cells for the production of many childhood vaccines?"
She just stared at me as if I had 3 heads...she finally says "oh, that was something science had to do decades ago to save many lives , we vaccinate all of our children on time. Why? are you against vaccines?" She appears snarky at this point and I can see the judgment in her eyes.
I say "actually, that's untrue and a lie that has been fed to people for decades ..it's to make you believe it was 2 abortions from the 60's and its for the "greater good" but what if I told you that over 80 babies were aborted and dissected at 3-4 months gestation to find the "perfect" specimen for the MMR vaccine? Or, the over 77 that were dissected to find the perfect specimen for the Rubella vaccine , shall I go on?"
She immediately looks uncomfortable. Looks at her phone and says "I'm sorry but we have some where to be" calls her child and off they go.
I think I will stop in to that church ⛪ maybe I'll have a chat with the Pastor!
Ps. I was not aggressive as I'm a very calm, patient person who can't stand conflict. I wasn'being rude but just wanted to know what kind of Church it was before we attended. Her reaction was one I've encountered 100's of times - cover your ears and continue living in wilfull ignorance, it's easier than accepting the truth, which can make us feel very uncomfortable.
I'm not judging her, she wasn't ready yet, but maybe I planted a seed and she will go home and look up what I told her. Hopefully she doesn't read the first page of Google, which will confirm that it was just 2 abortions from the 60's as she settles back into those comforting lies..like many do.
