We have said goodbye to another old friend - RPD Cosmic from @DC_Police who has sadly crossed over rainbow bridge, aged 10 and a half. Cosmic served for 8 years, completing an amazing career, assisting in endless arrests, finding evidence, and saving lives throughout Cornwall with @CornwallDogs He was born with @DC_PoliceDogs and puppy-walked by Lindsay @LadyLobby and her husband Anthony, and adored by their daughter Maisie - before being handled to Sgt James Little. An amazing partnership, Cosmic was also a huge part of James’s family life, and his daughter Pippa had an especially close bond with their gentle giant. On the streets, Cosmic was a large presence and suspects would take one look at the imposing police dog and make the sensible choice of giving up, rather than have a close encounter with those pearly whites! When Cosmic retired, while James would have loved to have kept him, it was not possible and he happily returned to his original family, this time Lindsay’s Mum and Dad, Trevor and Linda, who had the joy of his company, and he lived the rest of his life being spoiled and loved by all. Our founder Lady Bathurst, met Cosmic on her Lands End to John ‘O’Groats bike ride when he received his Long Service Award from @ACCLeaper. Dear Cosmic left for his next adventure when he suddenly lost the use of his back legs, and he did so surrounded by the love of his family, who are devastated. Our thoughts are with all who knew and loved RPD Cosmic, his family, his handler and the Little family, as well as his colleagues. Sleep well Cosmic and thank you for your service. Safe travels big lad. 💜🐾💜🐾💜

I watched RPD Cosmic our C litter being born in our conservatory with mum Ruby. I then watched Lindsay & Anthony do a brilliant job puppy walking him & then had the pleasure of training him and his litter on his Initial course with James. Great dog, great times RIP Coz. ❤️

It’s been a super busy week this poor lad has moved in … so sad but we are here for him for as long as he needs just trying to raise a few pound for his care at this time . Mum says we’ve been such good girls letting him have pole position for a bit 💙🐾 gofund.me/dba95434

As we look forward to the New Year and 2025, we wanted to once more share what we do. The National Foundation for Retired Service Animals is a UK registered charity that supports the owners of retired dogs and horses from the Police; Fire & Rescue; Prison; Border Force; NHS; and NCA services with medical bills.  When an animal retires, all funding stops, meaning owners are responsible for all vet costs for the rest of the animals life.  As is widely recognised vets fees are rising, resulting in owners facing the challenge of funding those bills from their own pockets. This can be a worrying prospect and the NFRSA’s mission is to assist by giving grants to help meet those demands.  Furthermore, the charity does not request, or expect ‘membership fees’ from owners of retired animals, as they feel they have given more than enough with their amazing service. If handlers and owners choose to donate or fundraise, then we always appreciate it, hugely!, and many do, which is absolutely amazing and we are so grateful. But it is not, and never will be, a condition of our assistance, which comes with nothing but gratitude, compassion, and love. The NFRSA has gifted well over £110,000 since its launch in 2022, and it is a privilege to acknowledge the service these extraordinary animals have given to their communities, and the wider public.  Our motto is to ‘Protect Our Protectors’ and as we look forward to the New Year, our mission is to do just that. Please join us, and if you’d like to help by perhaps considering making a monthly donation, even the price of a cup of coffee, it will make an enormous difference to the animals we all support. Thank you for travelling alongside us on this extraordinary journey. You are all appreciated, and we can’t thank you enough for being there - one way you could help immediately is by sharing this post! Happy New Year. Here’s to 2025 - bring it on!! nfrsa.org.uk/ Pic is RPD Corrie from @PSOSDogs and @PoliceScotland - one of the earlier recipients of a grant.

During August we assisted retired service animals from across the UK with veterinary bills to the tune of £10,000. We share this with you, as well as individual cases, not because we gain anything from it, but because we want you to know where your donations, and the results from your fundraising efforts have gone. It is not to pat ourselves on the back either, or to boast, because frankly that’s not how we roll, we don’t have time, and being contortionists is out of our league… It is, in a way, our show of thanks to YOU for the generosity you’ve shown us, to reassure you we are placing the money you send us where it’s needed, and to share the experiences of our family members, so they too can know they have your love and support. You have no idea how much that means. It is also done with the full knowledge and permission of those we help, because they also realise that without it, you’d all perhaps wonder where your money has been spent. If any of our grant recipients do not wish to share their story, then we respect it, and we don’t. Simple as that. As a charity, we are completely open and honest, and if anyone has any questions, comments, or even concerns, then we are here to respond. And we will. So - here we are - at your service - and truly honoured to do what we do. If you’d like to find out more, please do visit our website, or get in touch. If you can support us, that would be amazing. If you don’t feel you can at the moment, that’s perfectly ok too, just follow us and see what we do. We love the company. Thank you so much for being there. Couldn’t do it without you. Truly. nfrsa.org.uk
