wrote the same word-counting program 5 times, each faster than the last
best result: 494× faster than my first Python version — by using SIMD in C
all are O(n), but some squeeze far more from the CPU and memory!
ALT (screenshot of blog) Counting Words at SIMD Speed Aug 2025 I've written some progressively faster word counting programs. First, we'll start with Python, and then we'll drop down to C, and finally, we'll use single instruction, multiple data (SIMD) programming to go as fast as possible. The task is to count the words in an ASCII text file. For example, Hello there! contains 2 words, and my 1 GiB benchmark text file contains 65 million words. At a high level: read bytes, scan while tracking minimal state, write the count to stdout. These are the results from my Apple M1 Pro that I'll dig into: Python (byte loop): 89.6 s Python re: 13.7 s C (scalar loop): 1.205 s C ARM NEON SIMD: 249 ms C ARM NEON SIMD threads: 181 ms You can also jump straight to the source files.

Just learned about the Mullvad Browser, it seems to have much much better privacy defaults than Firefox or Chromium. And I have no doubt that it is much better than Brave (or Chrome). My 2 cents.

German court documents yesterday revealed that French intelligence has access to all of Telegram's internal data now, thanks to Durov. They are freely sharing it with other intelligence & police agencies, so warrants aren't even needed.

I read it, while I'm more polite, agree with @bergealex4. Very bad what-if. Nuke it immediately. Lost touch with users and the ecosystem or not getting how that scans. No offense, but lease hear the feedback that is a bad, bad, bad what-if.

Here is one simple thing you can do that would be very helpful to test the Bitcoin Core release candidate.
At home, start bitcoind with the -natpmp option. Let it start and stop it. Check if it could successfully open a port on your router.
You can check this by looking at the startup logs (which should be displayed in your terminal by default if you start with only `bitcoind -natpmp`). Among the first lines look for mentions of "pcp", "natpmp" or "portmap".
Read the relevant log lines to determine whether the port mapping on your router was successful. If unsure, feel free to share it with me directly (dm, emails, ..) or with the project (IRC, 29.0 testing feedback issue, ..).
Report the model of your router and whether the port mapping was successful.
