Says he’ll try to get him confirmed “as quickly as possible” but acknowledged that probably can’t happen before June 19, which is when Pulte becomes acting DNI.
“I don’t know what ‘realistic’ is, but we’re gonna probe the limits of it.”
Thune adds he did not get a heads up from Trump about the Clayton announcement.

Also, Trump does NOT say here that Pulte won’t take over as acting DNI on June 19. The Senate can’t process Clayton’s nomination before then. Dems may be heartened by the Clayton announcement but will almost certainly demand that Pulte not assume the acting role on June 19.
