Today's strike has sparked a crucial debate with opposing views. The thread below highlights the motivation for those striking over the next 2 days. Strikes may or may not be the answer, but there is a problem and change is needed #NHSCrisis
1. Tomorrow i will be supporting the NHS #ConsultantsStrike About Me: ➡️ I am a cardiology consultant / professor @UHNM_NHS ➡️ i was from a working class background, i went to a state comprehensive. My dad left school at 16, mum at 12. I am the first / only member of my family to receive a higher education. I received a student grant to go to @UniofOxford. I left med school with little debt. I could not afford to train as a doctor now.

Can anyone explain to me why paediatric neurologists aren't prescribing safe and life changing medication? The alternatives are not cheap (and the evidence is limited for the newer meds) so this isn't about money or evidence. What is this about?

Why we all need to fight for the future of the #NHS...
This is pretty much what happened to my dad, the man spent 55-60 years working day and night hardest worker you ever would meet. 12-hour days owned multiple businesses over his life. We both did hard back-breaking work breathing chemicals we shouldn't, lifting things that had to be moved, rolling around on concrete up and under trucks and equipment. He spent his last 5 years with cancer, medical bills wiped out everything he ever worked for and he spent his last years suffering.

Essential pre placement reading @psychiatryofid @rcpsych
Thrilled that consultants are messaging me to say they're sending our Autistic SPACE paper to their incoming August teams as a pre read. This is exactly the sort of impact we were hoping for when we wrote it @SueMcCowan1 @Autistic_Doc #AutisticHealth magonlinelibrary.com/doi/ful…

Remember when they fined a 66yr old man £100 for meeting friends in an allotment to get some respite from his loneliness?! His statement was a heart wrenching read 💔 They really didn’t give a shit about us did they?! Just partied away, mocking us & taking us all for fools!

Dear @Spectator, Let's talk about patriotism and duty to one's country. 79 years ago today, my American grandfather Raymond Meyerson stormed the beaches of Normandy to help liberate Europe from the Nazis. The generation of British soldiers he fought with returned home and created the NHS. 75 years later, we NHS staff fought through the pandemic ultimately witnessing 225,000 people die — including over 2,000 of our dear colleagues — as we protected this country from the greatest threat since WWII. Real patriots step up for their country in its time of need. They do so with a sense duty to their nation. In my book, NHS staff fit that bill perfectly. What patriots don't do is destroy their nation's healthcare system, ruin people's lives, and exploit a crisis so they can get rich. Only @Conservatives would do that. The Greatest Generation would roll in their graves to see how this militant, greedy, and corrupt Tory government destroyed the health system that their generation fought so hard to achieve. They would be horrified that NHS dentistry, general practice, and mental health services were gutted by this government's greed. They would be furious that the @Conservatives had intentionally engineered the worst GP, A&E, cancer, and outpatient waiting lists in NHS history at 7.3 million people long, all to push more patients into private healthcare. They would class this govt's premeditated assault on the health of this nation and their callous disregard for the lives of hundreds of thousands of people — all for their own financial benefit — as nothing short of domestic terrorism. And I have no doubt they would back anyone who fought for it — especially striking NHS staff — because like @Harryslaststand, they knew what life was like without an NHS. They saw the horror of having to watch loved ones die because they couldn't afford healthcare. Their enduring legacy is saving us from fascism and creating the NHS. Your legacy is burning it all down. So to answer your question: "Have we betrayed the D-Day generation?" The answer is Yes. YOU most definitely have. But we NHS staff are still fighting to preserve what they fought for. And there's nothing more patriotic than that. #SOSNHS

Charlie has been brave and open about her depression and it’s treatment. It’s so cheering to see the responses to her in this thread - real people who have been helped by antidepressants and who don’t feel the need to troll and shame her.
After weeks of low mood, I’ve started on some antidepressants. I was reluctant to share as, when I’ve previously tweeted about taking meds, I’ve had some pretty nasty responses But, I refuse to feel ashamed anymore, so here they are ☺️
