As the tournament starts, we've looked at four of the controversies around Qatar's hosting of the World Cup: the selection process, workers' rights, the environmental impact and LGBT rights. Produced by Mary Fuller, Michael Cox and Nicholas Barrett.
New Twitter policy is freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach.
Negative/hate tweets will be max deboosted & demonetized, so no ads or other revenue to Twitter.
You won’t find the tweet unless you specifically seek it out, which is no different from rest of Internet.

For @elonmusk to allow Donald Trump back on Twitter, ostensibly after a brief poll, shows he is not remotely serious about safeguarding the platform from hate, harassment and misinformation.
I made this point directly to Modern Frontends when they were asking for speakers. I recommended they put clear details on the site. They dismissed it as something only I (and one other guy??) cared about.
I have a simple rule of thumb with new conferences… if you cannot easily figure out anyone involved with it in advance, you probably don’t want to attend, speak, or sponsor.

A quick reminder as folks are glorifying absurd hours again:
1. Sustained crunch mode leads to net negative productivity vs. 40 hr/wk
2. Working sleep deprived leaves you as mentally impaired as being drunk
Working longer *feels* productive but it makes you worse at your job.

Asked a former Twitter employee about Elon's proposal here to make people verify their identities on Twitter via phone & payment system. Their response: "It's insane, he will get dissidents jailed & tortured if he implements this"
Eh, I decided I'm just gonna voice my feelings about Mastodon rather than being indirect about it. Hopefully, people don't feel too offended.
I think we need to be careful about how we shape social interaction within Mastodon..because right now it feels very WHITE.

✨ Next up on the community care list.
If you spoke at *that conference* and got landed with an unexpected travel and hotel bill. Especially if you’re a new speaker - Get in touch.
There’s a lot of awareness around this now - so I’m sure we can start up a little fund.

Sincerely, do not pass up the opportunity to hire @qarnax.
They're an AMAZING engineer with uniquely strong communication abilities, an unmatched learning speed, and strong considerations for the end-user that not many other engineers have.
Seriously - GO HIRE @qarnax DO IT
NEW: Email from Elon to the engineering team: "Anyone who can actually write software, please report to the 10th floor at 2pm today. Before doing so, please email me a bullet point summary of what your code commits have achieved in the past 6 months" 1/

Respect and appreciation go to our local @reactsydney organisers @JessTelford & @JedWatson and others. We had a great time sharing knowledge about the front end (free food & beverage).
Vs a paid £699 conference @ModernFrontends, Take a guess which photo belongs to which event.
