Motivation-Ppl like a challenge & kids are people. When u ask them to take on something hard, let them in on the secret so they can take on the challenge with the right mindset & so they can be proud when they meet the challenge –& we will make sure that they meet the challenge
ALT “Years ago, a conversation with a quieter student convinced me to change ‘class participation’ to ‘class engagement.’ It should not be a contest to see who speaks the most. Assess involvement in learning no matter how it looks in each student.” —Amy P.
Research suggests: Consider integrating whole body movement into the learning of ABCs! 🤸 🔠

ALT When learning their ABCs, children who used whole body movements to mimic the letters of the alphabet—slithering like a snake as they hissed the “sss” sound, for example—improved their recall of letter-sound pairings and doubled their ability to recognize hard-to-learn sounds, such as the difference between the sounds that c makes in cat and sauce, compared to kids who wrote and spoke letter-sound pairings at their desks. Consider integrating whole body movement into the learning of ABCs, the research suggests. Source: Damsgaard et al., 2022

We celebrate our learning at end of each day in all of our classes! In class #4 we share what we are proud of and why.

“I added all capital letters to the start”
Building oral language and confidence! @ReadALotLDSB
Last day of small groups @ReadALotLDSB - these assistants lead our word chains! Incredible seeing students read each word (from code they hadn’t yet consolidated just weeks before!!!) & guide their peers! Amazing! Have a great summer & happy reading!
After 10 years, it’s time to pass the @ReadALotLDSB torch to @MrsMatthewsLDSB! I’ve been incredibly proud of the countless lives touched and the lifelong love of reading this program has inspired. Thank you to all our amazing staff and students. 📚 #EndOfAnEra
❤️ When #students dysregulate and exhibit unexpected behaviors, they are thinking with the emotional part of their brain at that moment. This is not a teachable moment. It is a time to connect, not correct. #LeadInclusion#EdLeaders#Teachers#UDL#TeacherTwitter
Class4 @ReadALotLDSB@MollyBrant_LDSB has been practicing positive self talk alongside building our literacy skills - as we celebrate our final days we read an excerpt from a favourite 📕#JustBecause@McConaughey during shared fluency 🎉🗣️❤️
During the last few minutes of small literacy groups, students played “be the teacher” - they planned & led word chains based on the targeted code they have been working on @ReadALotLDSB@MollyBrant_LDSB to showcase & extend their learning with their peers 🎉
