MLB Bullpen Review #8
Los Angeles Angels
The west coast climate is the best for a pitcher. Consistent temperatures and air density make gripping the ball more predictable.
Angel Stadium (The Big A) has one of the shortest dimensions to the outfield wall from home plate. The bullpens are placed in dead left field just beyond the warning track and wall. Both team bullpens stacked on one another and after a few years I have given up on guessing which belongs to whom.
I am sure fans would like this area to replaced with ticked seating. For the field view, catching home run balls and proximity to the fire torch in the centerfield rockpile.
My favorite aspect to pitching in Angel Stadium is not that it is close to Disney Land. It is that this is the last standing stadium the great Nolan Ryan called home.
Now, access to the bullpen from the visiting clubhouse can be found through navigating a maze of stadium service corridors. After passing the home clubhouse and wrapping back behind the outfield bleachers, the field access tunnel for grounds crew and paramedics leads to the bullpen door.
Finally, the most interesting aspect of the Angel Stadium bullpen is the shared restroom. Whether or not the rivalry is serious, it is still required to show courtesy while seeking relief.
Overall score: 8.5/10
Pros:
1. West coast climate
2. Easy access from clubhouse
Cons:
1. Required to show courtesy to opponent
2. Fans envy the seating location
Bonus:
As one of the few remaining multi sport stadiums, the seating is designed to offer more seats close to the action. This is noticeable as a player on the field and creates a great experience.
