Today's perceived drop in domestic abuse crimes reflects fewer crimes recorded, not fewer crimes happening.
This follows police being instructed to count fewer DA crimes.
That's why this data doesn't reflect the prevalence of DA, nor the number of DA crimes reported to police.
The police recorded 851,062 domestic abuse-related crimes in England and Wales in YE March 2024. This was a decrease compared with the previous year (911,248), which, in part, reflects recent changes in police recording practices.
