It's ok to consider yourself a fan of a game even if you've never played it. But do not downplay the importance of playing it yourself. This debate has spiraled out of control but the tweets that annoyed me were the ones from people dismissing the need to play the game entirely.

You can understand the story and the characters but the biggest draw of gaming as a medium lies in its interactivity. That's 90 percent of the appeal. It's what sets it apart from books, tv shows and movies. You're not experiencing the medium to its full potential.
