I put together some data on LA City Council Members' handling of encampments and housing policy. The data show council members differ sharply in sweeps, arrests, and housing-based solutions. Some are following the science; others are not.

Pleased to share our paper published today in Hypertension. Using data from the Jackson Heart Study and a computer simulation, we found maintaining normal BP over the lifecourse could add up to 4.5 years of life and 6 years of healthy life.

ALT Landlords and agents are illegally overcharging renters by $7.7 million per month.
ALT On average, 120 new rent-gouged listings were identified per day between January 7 and January 18.
LOOTING IN LOS ANGELES
'The Rent Brigade' found from Jan 7-18, a total of 1,343 listings on Zillow appear to have violated the state’s price gouging ban. Those listings appear to have collectively sought to overcharge tenants $92 mil/year. @LATenantsUnion

Likely rent gouging wasn't limited to mansions in the hills. Many listings were in Koreatown and South L.A.

Homes in L.A. were still smoldering when Zillow rents started to spike.
Volunteer rent gouging sleuths quickly started tracking the data. They found 1,343 listings that appear to have broken the law.

A furnished Bel Air home went on Zillow today for $29,500 / month. A few months ago, it was asking $15,900.
I called up the agent. She said she told her client to re-list the home after this week's L.A. fires.
"People are desperate," she said. "You can probably get good money."

Landlords are raising rental listing prices by more than 50% to profit from the fires. Penal Code 396 prohibits price-gouging during a state of emergency.

Beware of price gouging, LosAngeles! The rental house next door to me (which has been on the market and sitting vacant since August) just tried to increase the asking rent by over 50% ! Report bad actors at oag.ca.gov/report
