"Among children born during 1994–2023, routine childhood vaccinations will have prevented approximately 508 million cases of illness, 32 million hospitalizations, and 1,129,000 deaths, resulting in direct savings of $540 billion and societal savings of $2.7 trillion."
Trump transition co-chair Howard Lutnick — in charge of helping staff the gov if he wins — says he had a 2.5 hour meeting with RFK Jr. who talked about pulling (safe and proven) vaccines from the market. Lutnick says RFK will not be in charge of HHS, despite what RFK said.

VP Harris's proposal to add an at-home care benefit to Medicare hit home for this Gen Xer. Making it happen won't be easy. But she opened up a long overdue conversation on an issue that affects so many. My latest @opinion (gift link): bloomberg.com/opinion/articl…

To better reflect the difficulty of getting a covid shot for your young child, they should stop calling it a vaccine uptake rate and start calling it a rate of “parents who succeed at complicated medical scavenger hunts.”
Color me surprised: #ACIP just got an update on #Covid vaccine uptake this fall. All age categories are up from last year at this time. Wonder if the late summer surge made people get vaxed sooner? Uptake still isn't great. kids: 3.7% vs 3.1% ≥18 yo: 11.7% vs 6.8% ≥75 yo: 30.6% vs 17.7%

In fact, pregnant women can protect their newborns against all sorts of nasty respiratory viruses by being vaccinated in pregnancy. As well as Covid, there's flu, whooping cough, and - now - RSV! 12/17

8 years ago today we started a conversation. On May 6/16, Jude died from influenza B after an outbreak at his sister's school. No measure is a guarantee, but each step we take can help prevent the flu, keeping us well and saving lives like Jude's.1/4 #FluShot #ForJudeForEveryone

And it seems the situation is similar for clinically vulnerable under 5s as the thread below from @TaSchinken explains. @GwynneMP, is there a plan for getting clinically vulnerable children vaccinated? It was a nightmare last year. Please tell me you’ve got it sorted this year.

What happened to #vax4kids💉? We protect children against viruses that pose lower risks. When did the UK authorities become antivax?
SARS-CoV-2 damages kids' cardiovascular and pulmonary systems. 90% of victims with Long Covid had abnormal cardiopulmonary exercise testing results. These results indicate impaired functional capacity, muscle deconditioning, and cardiogenic inefficiency. journals.lww.com/pidj/fullte…

Furthermore Ascension, a Catholic entity, has asserted its religious right to deny healthcare to women and LGBTQ minorities on issues of gender affirming care and abortion. It’s unclear what impact this merger may have for these groups in terms of decreased access to that care.

This hits the nail on the head: we can’t deal with the rise in pertussis if we misunderstand how it’s spreading. Most people catching pertussis are vaccinated. We need a more effective vaccine and engineering measures to limit airborne contagion.
Replying to @DefectiveBecca
Shout out to the scientists who have acknowledged this problem and have been working for years to develop better pertussis vaccines. It is not anti-vaccine to be honest about the limitations of the current vaccine.
