Wrapping up #30DayMapChallenge with a bonus map: a cartogram where countries are resized by their EEZs! 🎁
Shout-out to Clipperton Island, which has the largest EEZ/land ratio: its EEZ is over 200.000 its land area 🤯
#30DayMapChallenge - day 26: transport
Since we began mapping the yearly tracks of our research vessel Simon Stevin, this is the furthest it has ever travelled thanks to the chase of a plankton bloom for the BERNARDO project! 😱

Last week, researchers from @ugent & #VLIZ chased a coccolithophore bloom in the central North Sea aboard the RV Simon Stevin. Find out why coccolithophores are a unique piece of the ocean’s carbon cycle puzzle. 👉 marsens-ugent.be/post/chasin… Part of the BERNARDO project funded by @VLAIO_be@BlauweCluster.
Last night, the #LifeWatchVLIZ SeaWatch-B training took place at the InnovOcean Campus.
Alongside an insightful talk on archaeological findings (@Idemerre), participants were given a first look at SeaWatch-B data collected over 11 years.

#30DayMapChallenge – Day 24: Places and their names
A heat map of all 64.476 named places in the Marine Regions gazetteer 🔥
Darker areas mean fewer names ➡️ the gaps in our coverage. Spot a dark region you know well? We’d love tips on data sources for features there! 🔍
New year, new undersea features integration! 🤿
Our latest Marine Regions update adds 108 new undersea names from GEBCO (107) and ACUF (1), keeping our global gazetteer current and consistent.
