The liberal mind virus strikes again.
He was trying to paint MAGA as racist while being prejudiced himself, failing to see the hypocrisy in his own actions. SMH.
A 21-year-old UIC student, Merlin Lu, has reportedly admitted he was the person behind the burning cross in Chicago’s Grant Park.
According to NBC 5, Lu said he built the cross, carried it to Grant Park, placed a red MAGA-style hat on top, used lighter fluid and toilet paper, and set it on fire.
He claims it was not about race and says he was protesting what he called MAGA Christian nationalism, Trump supporters, and the Trump administration’s “ruling class.”
But here’s the problem: a burning cross is not some random protest prop. It is one of the most hateful and divisive symbols in American history. You do not get to light a cross on fire in a public park and then act shocked when people see it as threatening, racist, or hateful.
Lu apologized to people who were offended, but he also admitted he knew the symbol had historical meaning before he did it. That makes the excuse even weaker.
Police labeled the incident as arson, and the FBI has reportedly been looking at whether it could be treated as a hate crime. Lu says his parents urged him to turn himself in, but as of the report, he had not done so.
This is what happens when political rage replaces judgment. You can dislike Trump. You can protest. You can criticize Christians, conservatives, MAGA voters, or whoever you want.
But lighting a cross on fire in Grant Park is not “activism.” It is reckless, dangerous, and disgusting.
Actions have consequences.
