Access to healthcare is a really big deal for Autistic people. A recent study found that 34% of respondents opted not to seek care for a “potentially serious or life-threatening condition” (@MaryDoherty et al., 2022) 🧵 1/10

We need more professionals like @PierreChengQian to help address these systemic issues to achieve more accessible healthcare. @PiaLBradshaw is doing some great research in this area and @cnicolaidis and colleagues developed the very excellent AASPIRE Toolkit. 9/10

I’ve heard getting old can be a bit of a drag, but I’d really like to give it a crack anyway. 10/10

Social media is reminding me of the time I took umbrage to the misspelling of “chute” in the law building. The sign I created as an addendum stayed there for an entire year.

If you’re an Autistic in NSW and find the information in an automated text message inadequate to prepare you for hospital admission, @NSWHealth has even more inadequate info for disabled patients online.

I went on a plane (some weeks back) and did an in-person thing with in-person people including @JacdenHouting, @alison_nuske, and @Clbrownlow. Just like the Before Times when I used to teach in a classroom.

The only thing more astonishing than the fact that Gough’s vision began to be realised half a century ago is that, 50 years later, we’re still so far from fully enacting the fundamental changes we so desperately need.
Gough Whitlam was born 106 years ago today. Gough did so much to build a fairer, smarter, and more vibrant Australia. He was our hero - and he always will be.

There seems to be a lot of talk about Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill. But have you heard it played on Javanese gamelan? I miss jamming with these ladies. youtu.be/38z82YLnZiI

Somewhat amused by the irony of @Qantas’s poor treatment of #ActuallyAutistic passengers given the publicity the airline’s safety record received from the film Rain Man.

Flying out with @JacdenHouting to join the @AutismCRC gang for the weekend, resplendent in #SunflowerLanyards for #HiddenDisability at #SydneyAirport. Requested support but according to @Qantas staff, accommodations “aren’t about disability”

@Qantas says we’re not disabled because we “can both walk”. @criprights what are your thoughts?
