For those saying "just check the National Rail app", bitter experience tells me that even if operators bother to update it, it'll only give you the 'official' explanation for your train being delayed. Only social media will give you the *actual* explanation
I mean I would check the National rail app or website, which is where you would find this information, you wouldn't find that information on Facebook or X. So my concern here is how Daniel survives as an adult if he is this dumb? x.com/LittleRedTrain/status/…

This picture, for example is not on the National Rail website, it's only been posted by Network Rail and the train operators on their social media channels: x.com/NetworkRailSE/status/2…

Following the discovery of sinkholes on a bridge outside of Purley, we had to close the railway between Purley and East Croydon, affecting journeys to Gatwick Airport Sink holes were spotted on the bridge, meaning that ballast, the stones that the track sits on, was falling through the gap, making the track unstable We've since carried out a thorough inspection of the bridge and are working to safely plug the gaps so that trains can safely run again We're sorry for the disruption this has caused to passengers in the meantime

So the 17 year old coming home from their evening job can't check Facebook or X to see if their trains home are disrupted... or tweet the operator for help!
🚨 NEW: Keir Starmer will introduce nightly social media curfews for 16 and 17-year-olds as part of the Government's social media ban [@thetimes]

Great day yesterday on the @Vintage_Trains 'Cathedrals Express' to Newcastle. Hauled by 5043 'Earl of Mount Edgcumbe...' well away from the usual stomping grounds of a GWR Castle! Did Premier Dining on this one, food/service were excellent and staff/volunteers lovely as always.

Yet again, the 'think of the children' brigade are opening up all of us to state surveillance, destroying online anonymity and risking our most personal of data being leaked to criminals. Plus completely ignoring how some young people actually benefit from online communities!
🚨 BREAKING: Keir Starmer threatens mandatory ID checks to use mobile phones "Protecting children online is vital, but these are outrageous plans that will fail to address the underlying causes of online harm. This will only result in population-wide ID checks for all of us to use our phones, tablets and laptops. "Put simply, the Labour Government is threatening ID checks for the internet. No one in a democracy should need to show their passport just to get online. "These plans would replace efforts for meaningful tech and parental responsibility with performative, authoritarian government control that children can easily circumvent by accessing adult-registered devices. However, for the UK's 50 million adults using the internet, this backdoor digital ID requirement would invoke the death of anonymity and internet privacy. "The Government's plan very likely means that unless you submit to intrusive identity checks when setting up your phone or computer, there will be a chokehold on your software and internet access leaving you with a child-locked device. Planned restrictions on messaging, streaming and browsing raise the potential of spyware in our pockets that will be exploited for other purposes before long. "The Government mandating that all phones in Britain require ID and surveillance software is a crossing of the Rubicon that would make the UK one of the most authoritarian internet regimes in the world. This extreme technological censorship requires rigorous public and parliamentary scrutiny that is currently totally missing" - Silkie Carlo | @silkiecarlo

Great day out at the @GWSR today, even with the heat and timetable delays. A very intensive timetable with a great set of visiting locos! Enjoyed the @RAFBBMF Spitfire flypast as well... possibly my only chance to see one this year with RIAT cancelled.

Also my trip to Cheltenham was conveniently timed to watch D1015 'Western Champion' arriving at Banbury with the @Vintage_Trains Golden Hind railtour to Plymouth.

Top marks to the @chilternrailway guard on 1R03. Checking tickets after each stop and giving the 'pay when challenged' freeloaders a lecture about possible consequences rather then just selling a ticket and moving on. An RPI on this train would have made a fortune!

Always a possibility, but a massive kick in the teeth to those who put the event on and the charities it benefits. Was looking like a fantastic lineup as well.
We’re very sorry to let you know RIAT will not be taking place this year. Ticketholders will be contacted by the end of May via email about their RIAT26 tickets. In the meantime, you can find further information and updates on our website and FAQs page. We appreciate your loyal support for RIAT and look forward to welcoming you to the show in 2027. Well #Eurovisión2026 may have been a bust for the UK, but at least I can console myself by riding @TalyllynRailway into the wee small hours! 🌙 🚂

It's a real shame that the proposed project to return her to steam never happened, would have been a fantastic sight storming over Shap!

Top day out up at @festrail today. Started a bit damp but by lunchtime it was blue sky and sunshine. Can't believe nobody else felt like braving the open coach, fantastic views and a great soundtrack right behind the loco... apparently really great for sniffing too!
