May we always revere and love your Holy Name, O God,
for you never fail to guide those you establish firmly in your love;
through Jesus Christ,
who is alive with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
What if Disclosure Day isn't about the revelation that most people are focusing on? My review (spoiler warning) sees the film from quite a different direction: liturgy.co.nz/disclosure-day…
The 1 Kings soap opera in the Daily Eucharistic Lectionary is wonderfully “tune in again tomorrow“!!! But now we don’t get the next bit 🥲 Also: the contrast with the Gospel is notable. ❤️
John Prevost, the pope’s older brother, rang from Chicago with a computer problem — because Bob, as the family still calls him, has always been the one who fixes these things.
“John, I’m the pope,” Leo reminded him.
The reply came without a pause: “Oh, sorry pope. My computer is broken.” thelettersfromleo.com/p/john…
Commemorating St Anthony of Padua.
Statue shows old tradition of removing Baby Jesus and holding him hostage until St Anthony has granted request: finding keys etc.
Just presided at Eucharist with difficult readings (1 Kings 19:9,11-16; Mt 5:27-32)
Points I made:
1) the Gospels are not verbatim recordings (Mk & Mt are obviously adapting Jesus' principles)
2) a principle is Jesus' care for the vulnerable
1/2
3) applying the rule literally, rather than the principle, can have the opposite result to the principle 4) 1 Kings: in any long relationship (especially with God) we normally move from strong feelings to having to learn to find God in the sound of sheer silence 2/2
