Last week we published our new report #NeverMoreThanOnce. We are asking the government to make sure they think about what support birth families need. We have three key asks, here is a short summary 👇
Read the full paper ➡️ tinyurl.com/bde9hj6b
ALT The Government has recently made plans to make the children’s social care system better and to stop as many children being taken into care. Pause is asking the Government to make sure that they also think about what support is needed for birth families. We have three things we are asking the Government to do to.
ALT 1. Counting families who have a child removed from their care more than once
At the moment, nobody is counting how many families have a child removed from their care more than once. This means that the government does not fully understand how many families go through this terrible experience. This means they are less likely to make things better for families who have their children taken into care. We want the government to make sure they count the families affected so they can understand this problem better and provide better support.
ALT 2. Remembering birth parents
Mums and Dads are still parents when their child is taken into care and lots of parents still have a relationship with their children, even if they don’t live with them. At the moment, when a child is taken into care, the children’s social care system can forget about birth parents. We want the government to make sure that birth parents are remembered and thought about in the rules that say how social workers work with families.
ALT 3. Support offered to all birth parents
We know that after a child is taken into care, birth parents are often left with no support at the most difficult time of their life. Pause was created to offer this support and has been shown to make things better for parents. But there are still lots of places in England where birth parents do not have a Pause Practice and there is no other support for them. We want the government to make sure that support is offered to every parent once their child is taken into care.
We're reflecting on @PauseOrg's impact in 2022-23💚Our data shows increased vulnerability among women we work with - this only adds to the case for support services to be more widely available for birth parents. Stay tuned for more in our new policy paper coming next week...!
We had a wonderful day yesterday hosting the Trustee visit in Liverpool for @PauseOrg with @PauseHalton.
Trustees got to see and hear all about our work and met some of the amazing women we have supported so far.💚
Such a great venue @TheBrainCharity#relationshipsmatter
Last week we attended a Pause regional learning event. It gave us space to reflect on our teams achievements and sparkle moments over the past year. Including an amazing MP visit by @IanByrneMP amongst other eclectic memories.
