What no one who needs to lose weight wants to hear but needs to hear:
Most (I would say 99%) people cannot be successful with long-term weight loss keeping junk food in the house.
You cannot have your cake and eat it too, here. If you're not willing to get rid of the junk in your house, you're not ready to commit to a healthy lifestyle.
The cephalic response is an innate physiological response whereby your body releases insulin in anticipation of food, which means that even thinking about a food nearby can increase hunger and cravings. Furthermore, these foods are hard to limit.
What you can do, is replace unhealthy junk with meals that satisfy your taste buds and healthier treats like dark chocolate, or a day of the week where you enjoy something reasonable. Understand, that just by getting rid of the junk in the house - you WILL crave a lot less in time. You cannot beat addiction by keeping the drugs around you.
One of the biggest issues I see, is someone's spouse or family member being unwilling to provide the support required and continues to consume these foods in front of them, which is too tempting for the other person, thereby sabotaging them.
You cannot depend on willpower. Don't lie to yourself and think you can keep foods that you've had issues with your entire life in the house. Don't lie to yourself and tell yourself that just a handful of chips a day is okay - it's not, because chips on a daily basis is too much/too often, and this will also compromise your overall health and weight loss efforts by feeding into your addiction and cravings for other foods, like general carbs.
