🏙️ Last week, the Africa Urban Lab team attended the Africa Urban Forum in Nairobi.
Bringing together a wide range of stakeholders, including governments, academia, private sector, cities, and communities, this forum created spaces for discussions and practical solutions for urban development in Africa.
The AUL hosted a side event, “Financing African Cities: Funding Urban Services, Infrastructure, and Housing,” focused on closing the urban finance gap in Africa through systematic approaches to strengthening how cities earn, spend, and borrow.
This event featured two presentations, one by the AUL Founder and Director,
@kurtislockhart, on urban finance systems in Africa, and another by Abhas Jha, World Bank Manager. This was followed by an engaging Q&A panel including Colette Nyirakamana, Research Lead at Local Government Revenue Initiative.
The AUL also had a booth staffed by current Diploma students and alumni, where we engaged with many of you and talked about the work we are doing.
On the last day of the event, we took advantage of having current students and alumni together in Nairobi. It was great to see them meet, connect, and network. ✨
Interested in building skills and joining a pan-African network of urban practitioners? We are currently accepting applications for our Professional Diploma in Urban Development. Scholarships are available.
