The Hounslow-Richmond Bicycle Checkpoint (2025)
Hounslow council have banned Lime bikes, and licensed Forest and Voi; neighbouring Richmond has licensed Lime and banned the others. So every bridge is Checkpoint Charlie, with loads of Lime bikes parked on one side and loads of Forest and Voi on the other. Top work everyone!

It shouldn’t take a visit to an asylum hotel by me as Shadow Home Secretary to shame the Government into action. Illegal working by asylum seekers - most of whom also entered the country illegally - is happening from the very hotels Yvette Cooper is using our money to run. The Government could easily stop it. I saw Deliveroo and other bikes parked in the hotel’s own compound - yet all the security guard cared about was me filming. The delivery company’s claims to be policing this are laughable. They are making money from illegal immigrants working on their platforms and are taking no meaningful steps to stop it. The Government should fine and prosecute them. This is a very serious issue because illegal working is a pull factor for illegal immigration into the UK - people smugglers actually advertise it. And it endangers women and girls as deliveries are made to their homes by unidentified recent illegal immigrants, often from nationalities we know have very high rates of sex offending.
🚨 NEW: Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has ordered a nationwide immigration enforcement crackdown on illegal working in delivery apps It comes after Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp filmed asylum seekers allegedly delivering for Uber Eats and Just Eat from a hotel

The @MayorofLondon says that those bus stops that comply with @TfL guidance are usable by blind people. This one here in the heart of the City of London does comply, but is clearly unusable for blind people. Retweet to support blind people’s. Access needs:

. . . and scrapped ID card proposals even though most of the countries represented at Sir Keir Starmer's migration summit in London use them.
Illegal Channel crossings are up 31% since Labour took office The first three months of this year are the worst on record The Govt are catastrophically out of step with other countries, who are looking to implement their own removals deterrents, while Labour cancelled ours

Cyclists in Chiswick High Road, with its 'floating' bus stops, seem to behave in the same way. Let's continue these discussions on Bluesky if Vincent and others want to transfer.
In the space of 1 minutes video about 5 offences are committed: Not stopping at a Zebra, cycling on the pavement & using a scooter on the pavement. Maybe due care & reckless cycling. Probably an illegally adapted e-cycle. @@MayorofLondon and DfT continue to promote these stops

Unlike schemes in narrow roads like Chiswick where cycle lanes result in a single traffic lane there is space in Streatham Hill for vehicles to pass stationary buses. However, it will still be dangerous for disabled people and those with limited sight to cross the cycle lanes.
Good news, everyone! Construction is set to begin this summer on the long awaited Streatham Hill changes which will include protected cycle lanes, new pedestrian crossings and improvements to bus lanes. tfl.gov.uk/info-for/media/pr…

.@BellRibeiroAddy @helenhayes_ @FloEshalomi set up a meeeting with delegates from @Fight4Heat_LBL and listen to those suffering on the ground in Lambeth and how @lambeth_council treats them with little more than contempt.
👋@FloEshalomi @BellRibeiroAddy @helenhayes_ please also raise #HeatNetworks issues at the Energy Security & Net Zero Questions on 17 Dec. 801 Lambeth tenants have received 'Notices of Seeking Possession' because we can't afford heating/hot water charges. 2026 will be too late!

Highrise development may focus on the number of floors, but the real litmus test for success is at street level. How do we prevent developments giving way to empty shop frontage in new highrises, asks @NeilGarratt:

It’s an incredible honour to have been asked to take on this role. @LouHaigh was formidable. I will do all I can to ensure we have a transport system that drives economic growth, connects our communities and protects the environment. A mammoth task ahead.

It’s great to see innovation in public transport, but the most sustainable bus service is one that’s attractive to passengers by providing quick reliable journeys. London’s bus passengers are getting a dire service in this respect. London needs a sustainable transport Czar.
Yesterday was an exciting morning for Go-Ahead London as we unveiled our new fleet of electric buses, which uses Pantograph charging technology, on our Route 358. At 15 miles, Route 358 is one of the longest in London, and the launch event took place at Crystal Palace, where the route serves. These buses will be charged in just six minutes at either end of the route, demonstrating our commitment to embracing innovative technology and advancing our goal of a zero-emissions fleet. Driver Isaac Nyarko-Bekoe, stated that being part of this launch has been the 'highlight of his career' and mentioned how brilliant the Irizar ie tram bus is to drive!
