If @willnorman wants to debate cycle safety in London, I am more than happy to do so. He could of course publish evidence that the rate of killed and serious injuries per KM cycled has declined since 2016 when he became cycling commissioner. Spoiler- it hasn’t. And it’s pathetic that he calls me anti-cycling. @nicholascecil @JohnJohnStewart

The organisation representing blind people that has done more than any other to highlight the injustice of floating bus stops was pointedly ignored by SoS @Heidi_Labour as part of the consultation process on floating bus stops. It’s easy to see why.
Kevin from Rochdale & colleagues from London are heading to @10DowningStreet to petition @Keir_Starmer on Monday 15 June at 11am on the new DfT floating bus stop guidance. The consultation was a sham & the guidance is discriminatory. It must be withdrawn. It is unfit for purpose.

Cycling accounts for about 2% of all trips in England, roughly the same as in the mid-1990s and little different from when CWIS was introduced in 2017.
Today, the Government has announced plans to deliver thousands of new walking, wheeling and cycling routes across England, transforming everyday trips to schools, shops and services. We're central to delivering this – helping to shape happier, healthier and greener communities.

Cycle campaigners have claimed for years that they want cycling to “feel” safe. Not actually safe. London government is delivering what cycle campaigners say they want.
In a follow-up to his earlier piece @nicholascecil reveals the London boroughs seeing the biggest rise in cycling accidents. Quote from Conservative London Assembly member Thomas Turrell gets to the heart of the matter: "Londoners will have serious questions about the objectivity and reliability of the data the Mayor and TfL presents them now that we understand how they present it. It strikes at the heart of transparency in government when authorities seek to paint a false image - that cycling in the capital is getting safer - when the opposite is true.” standard.co.uk/news/london/c…

The ‘Cycling experts’ are the ones that got us into this mess: “Cycling experts suspect the growing number of injuries may be more linked to the city running out of cycling infrastructure capacity rather than the greater use of e-bikes.”
'While fewer people are losing their lives on London’s roads, the rise in serious injuries is a reminder that too many people are still suffering life-changing consequences as a result of road collisions,' says @CarolineRussell, leader of the Green group on the London Assembly standard.co.uk/news/london/c…

I met @Susorunge 24 years ago. She was working for her estate’s tenants association. She continued that work with residents and young people for two decades before she became a councillor. She is the salt of the earth. If you are lucky enough to live in Hackney Central please vote for her on 25 June.
Just the other day at the Pembury Centre with the hardworking volunteers at the Foodbank. Run by the wonderful Amina, who like me is a Hackney Central resident, my neighbour just a few streets away . Thank you Amina and the team 👏🏽❤️ #whyIloveHackneyCentral

If @WillNorman wants to be transparent on cyclist safety he would publish 1. The number of Killed and Serious injuries (KSI) for 2025 (1196); 2. a chart showing the numbers over the last 20 years and 3. a chart showing the risk per journey or Km over the last 20 years. And maybe how much this has all cost!

To be clear the @TfL Vision Zero road safety plan 1, was going to fail badly and never hit its interim 2030 target. That was why they changed the target and launched a second plan. Here’s the first. @nicholascecil @JohnJohnStewart

This is @willnorman’s own chart for killed and serious cyclist injuries, 2017 to 2025. They show an eye watering 75% increase since he became cycling commissioner! He says there is more to do!

There were more serious cyclist injuries in London in 2025 than in the last two decades. The risk per journey is trending upwards despite £1.5bn spent on bike tracks. @TfL have hidden this.

This @willnorman tweet is clearly not true. Serious injury risk to cycling across London is on a rising trend. I have asked @TfL if they have any evidence to back it up.

A measure of how pathetic and opportunistic @ZoeGarbett and the @HackneyGreens are is their proposal to break an inactive, low key twinning association with the people of Haifa. What on earth will that achieve!
