>our rate of technological progress [...] has plummeted since what
Peer review was disastrous for society. It was established since WW2 and our rate of technological progress and has plummeted since and academia became dogmatic. It’s literally just selecting for groupthink

"I find it really weird that people on social media would find the idea of a social media ban to be bad" is there some kind of mandatory level of retardation required to be a British news person
I’m not myself convinced by the idea of social media ban but I notice my timeline flooded only by accounts utterly sure of its tyranny. Weird that.

It’s an okay platform for multiplats, esp if you like physical media. But no Sony themselves have not delivered
14h
Sony overall has delivered with the PS5 generation. Agree or disagree?

Honestly I think, for the games I like to play, Sony’s puritanical influence has been quite bad

>"skill expression" >look inside >it's just the same thing that the Mario RPGs have been doing for 30 years
It did something revolutionary which is not be painfully padded out and stalling out its progression, also have skill expression with turn based rpgs completely lack lol

Let it be known: female protagonists in gaming wouldn't be where they are today without Ellie Williams. She helped bring them into the mainstream and proved they could lead some of gaming's greatest stories. So whenever you see a peak female protagonist, be grateful for Ellie🐐
Community note
Female protagonists have been part of mainstream gaming since at least the 1980s. Samus Aran from Metroid (1986) and Lara Croft from Tomb Raider (1996) were influential long before Ellie in 2013. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender_re… ign.com/articles/2011/…

Because mortality from all other causes is down. You're now statistically likely to live long enough to get cancer (which is usually inevitable once you starting getting up in age).
Does anyone else find it odd that $200 billion is spent on cancer research every single year...and the only thing to show for it is a 75% increase in cancer deaths since the 1990s?

Every day I feel more and more vindicated by skipping marriage
there's a sex therapist who has a ritual of making out with her husband every night before bed, and so many of the comments on her posts are some version of "but what if he gets turned on and I don't want to have sex" and i need men to understand and prioritize non sexual touch.

New: Cops keep getting arrested for using Flock to stalk people. Seemingly every week there's a new case, the details usually similar. Cops use unfettered access to Flock to surveil an ex. They most often search plates hundreds of times over months 404media.co/cops-keep-gettin…

Nobody wanted Saturn because it was $400. That is the equivalent of buying a PS5 Pro in today's money. Obviously game selection became an issue but the system costing so much massively hampered early adoption which killed a lot of the momentum for devs to support it.
A normal person from 1995 did not want: - The Virtual Boy (because migraines) - A Sega system that didn't have a primary Sonic game made just for it (Saturn, as underrated as it is) - The PC-FX and it's lack of 3D GPU - The Atari Jaguar

This is actually a perfect example of "what's the difference between a bouncer checking your ID and a website doing it?" Identity theft.
Nearly a million passports and photo IDs were left unprotected on the public internet But don't worry guys age verification is going great!! Great reporting from @verge And this is for a purpose I'm understanding of age verifying people for!

I see from the replies that the XBC community is still not ready to reckon with the fact that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the best-selling game in the franchise by a country mile.
I usually just laugh at this guys opinion because he's a doomer like his brother, but damn most of what he said has truth to it.

It's two adults man. At 19, I was plenty savvy enough to navigate the complex intricacies of being an older woman's diversion.
Pedophilic age gap aside *dials 911*, PS5 AND RTX 5070X? WITH TEACHER'S SALARY?

This opinion piece would have been just as fitting in 2016 as it is in 2026 lol

Games became worse because they started being made as mass-market entertainment with absurdly large budgets catering to the lowest common denominator. And this process was well underway even back in the era of console exclusivity (see - PS1 vs PS2)
It is not a coincidence that games became worse and worse as console manufacturers began competing with one another less, and everything just started going to PC instead. The medium was at its best when all of the consoles were viable choices and had distinct identities and options. Do not listen to a man who plays World of Warcraft for a living about video games.

Ironically enough, the decline of exclusivity started to see games claw back a bit of their charm because it meant that you could take some risks and claw back potential lost sales on a much wider consumer base.
