News from the House of Lords Communications and Digital Committee. Investigating public policy related to the media, the internet and the creative industries.
Chair of the committee Baroness Keeley @KeeleyMP, has issued the following statement on the resignations of BBC Director General Tim Davie and CEO of News Deborah Turness:
ALT Graphic: "The BBC, like all news providers, has to make difficult editorial decisions under intense pressure and scrutiny. On occasion, as with other news media, mistakes will be made. When that is the case it is important those mistakes are identified, acknowledged and corrected as soon as possible.
"However, the BBC is still the news brand that is most trusted by the UK public and it continues to represent a very high standard of UK journalism across the globe. The upcoming Charter review is a good opportunity for the BBC and the Government to look at what is working well and what can be improved, but we must not fall into the trap of focusing only on the negative and ignoring the vital contribution the BBC continues to make to journalism and keeping citizens informed.”
