A former colleague shared this photograph of me from six years ago when I was working at Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre. Clearly I love posing with museum dummies!

I have had my five minutes of fame on Women on the Frontline. Bear in my mind I am beginner to this. It was a lot of fun filming and showing off some archival material, even if didn’t all appear in the final edit. channel4.com/programmes/ww2-…

Trying to channel my inner @SpitfireFilly of course 😊. The fact mum liked it, is good enough for me.

Had a great time at the #RAFMConference 2024! Well done to all of the speakers and to @MeganEKelleher for organising. Had a go at chairing a panel for the first time, and it was great to see colleagues present their research. Thank you all! 😊

Thoroughly enjoyed attending the ‘Writing the Air War’ conference this weekend with my colleague. Thank you to IBCC for the welcome. Met many lovely people who shared fascinating research, and of course I took lots of notes.

Neil Flanigan MBE, has passed away, at 99 years old. We interviewed him in 2019 for our film. Neil was the 39th person from Jamaica to volunteer for the RAF. He trained as ground crew & worked on aircraft taking part in Operation Market-Garden. He'll be much missed. RIP Neil.

Selective mutism is a condition which affects one in 140 children in the UK. It’s great to see awareness-raising articles like this as I once had selective mutism. In my two decades of youth volunteering, I have only come across one child with it. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-es…

Today we have an archival mystery photograph for you (Ref: Acc 5179). Sadly, we don't know who and where this female pilot is. We think that the flight gear dates to the early 1910s/1920s. Anyone have any ideas as to who she might be? #FemalePilots #WomensHistoryMonth #Aviation

I missed the posts for #InternationalWomensDay but of course I salute the historians I follow (too many to name) and wonderful colleagues who inspire me, not all are on Twitter, but include @MeganEKelleher.

In 1807, the ship Anne Marie was captured by the British Navy while sailing from the Faroe Islands to Denmark. Five packages and two hundred letters were confiscated from the ship and survived, still sealed, in the Prize Papers. What’s inside? Read below to find out. /1

Great to get a little insight into why aviation records have ended up in particular places. Availability of records is not always what the public hope or expect. For example, few passenger lists were retained and personnel records if they survive mainly document pilots.
Adrian Constable’s talk about British Airways archive has been really interesting. He discussed what they have and what they don’t and things that many archivists can relate to in keeping archives and running a museum. #AeroArchives24

Really interesting to learn about the process of surveying archives of UK airline operators. The team have been studying online catalogues, receiving submissions, and following up with physical visits. Great work improving public understanding of these dispersed collections.
@LucyArchivist wrapping up by discussing the guide to be launched very soon for Uk airline operator archives. Bravo to her for all the work she has clearly put into this guide to help make airline records more accessible. #AeroArchives24

I really enjoyed Dr Smith's talk on how BOAC presented itself to the nation through its advertising and the political context, particularly during decolonisation. I imagine he trawled through quite a few brochures during his research!
Replying to @ARAArchMus
@LewisChSmith wrapping up a really interesting presentation on the impact of BOAC making great points I hadn’t known much about, looking forward to his article on the topic #AeroArchives24

I really enjoyed Alice Millard’s presentation which mentioned the approach taken to cataloguing the Freddie Laker archive. More about the collection here: blog.archiveshub.jisc.ac.uk/…

@WestSussexRO Alice Millard’s presentation on Freddie Laker’s Archive giving an interesting behind the scenes look at acquisition, appraisal, and cataloging of the collection. #AeroArchives24

Spiffing day at #AeroArchives24 learning about BOAC, the Laker archive, airline #advertising, small British #airlines in the 1930s, and the BA archive. Good also to catch up with a number of friends and colleagues.

Stewards Arthur Bradbury and Joanna Toff survived the 1985 Manchester Airport Disaster; each awarded the Queen’s Gallantry Medal for ‘outstanding courage and devotion to study’. Two other attendants, Sharon Ford and Jacqui received the same award posthumously. 2/2 #AeroArchives24
