I think we’re beyond the “raise awareness” stage of practically every major social issue.

You can’t create inclusive spaces without asking people what they actually need. Lydia Gratis is doing what whole institutions won’t, listening to communities first. 🎬 Watch on Youtube.com/gormmedia #DeafAdvocacyIreland #Accessibility #DeafVoices #CommunityLedInclusion

Inclusion starts with a question: “How can I communicate with you?” @LydiaGratis reminds us that access isn’t always high-tech, it can be a gesture, a note, a message. 🎬 Watch full episode: youtube.com/gormmedia #InclusiveCommunication #DeafAccessibility #Intersectional

Organisations love the illusion of inclusion, posting statements, commemorating days, and staging diversity campaigns, while doing nothing to dismantle the structures that keep people excluded in the first place.

When the illusion wears thin, they don’t course correct, they retreat, waiting for the next moment to resurface with the same empty promises.

And when the illusion is challenged, they respond not with change, but with replacements, ensuring there are always willing voices to uphold the performance and maintain the illusion.

There’s something to be said about the way Black people are continuously brought on to TV debates about racism but lack opportunities in the TV industry...

A big part of my life involves discussing public safety—attending panels, giving/viewing presentations. Yet, during every Q&A, it’s often the same privileged voices dominating the conversation, focusing on ‘street people,’ property, and ‘crime.’

6million women, children & men have been killed in Congo over the span of 25 years. 6 million. That’s 240,000 a year, 20,000 a month, 5000 a week, 714 a day. Half of these numbers have been children. All so that the west can make phones, tablets, electric cars, planes for cheap.

My grandma really just said on a call, "When you come home 🇿🇩, bring me your old hearing aids!đŸ€đŸ˜‚" Ma’am! It don’t work like that! 😂😂😂 Then she goes, “Sometimes I don’t hear anything, I just nod and say yes to people. This your world?”

My lifelong obsession w/ anthropology is why I can’t believe in “Forgive & forget” rhetoric. All the solid research shows a mistake that is not acknowledged
is almost destined to be repeated. That’s why 15yrs ago I started teaching my clients to say “Evolve or stay gone” instead. And the shift I’ve watched it cause in how they re-engage w/ people is top tier. đŸ€ŒđŸŸâœš
