As usual, I’m a day late, but yesterday was the 80th birthday of the uber talented bona fide national treasure, Neville John Holder, AKA Noddy Holder from the mighty Slade.
Many years ago I worked at Century FM in Manchester (now Heart FM, I think), where Noddy had a show. As a massive Slade fan I was a bit taken aback at first but eventually plucked up the courage to say hello. He was incredibly kind to me and for about six months, at lunchtime, we’d sit on a wall overlooking Salford Quays and Noddy would tell me stories about his time in Slade and answer my myriad questions. It’s honestly one of my favourite memories.
The man’s a legend. And what a voice!
As opposed to posting something authentic and musical in tribute to Noddy, I’m enlisting a comedy supergroup consisting of Bob Mortimer, Mark Williams, Vic Reeves (Jim Moir) and Paul Whitehouse - AKA the cast of the At Home With Slade skits from The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer.
Apparently, Noddy and the lads from Slade loved these skits so we’re good to go.
God bless Noddy Holder! X
