Today, 6 May 2026, the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy hosted an information-sharing session in collaboration with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (
@CTBTO) on the upcoming Integrated Field Exercise 2026 (IFE26) in its auditorium.
The session brought together staff members to enhance understanding of Namibia’s role in hosting one of the most significant international exercises in nuclear non-proliferation. The presentations highlighted the importance of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), which prohibits nuclear explosions globally. Namibia signed the treaty in 1996 and ratified it in 2001, reaffirming its commitment to global peace and security.
The IFE26 exercise is scheduled to take place from 5 October to 20 November 2026 in the Erongo Region, specifically in the coastal towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.
Notably, this will be the first time the Integrated Field Exercise is held in Africa, following previous exercises in Kazakhstan in 2008 and Jordan in 2014.
The exercise is a large-scale simulation designed to test inspection methodologies, operational readiness, and technical capabilities under the CTBT verification regime, including systems such as the International Monitoring System and on-site inspections.
The engagement marks a key milestone in Namibia’s preparations, reinforcing the country’s commitment to international cooperation, nuclear non-proliferation, and global peace and security.
