Talked myself hoarse at tonight's @LourdesSec Study Skills event. It was great getting to share my research nerd side with pupils & their families, showcasing all the resources & experience available in the #SchoolLibrary to support them through assignments, dissertations & exams

Looking forward to showing all the ways the #SchoolLibrary can help pupils with online resources, research skills, and through a great collection of books. Parents/carers can also access these online resources if they have a library card! Advice will be available on the night.

Today I spoke in favour of a number of amendments to the Assisted Dying Bill. Fundamentally, I do not believe the safeguards in the Bill can protect people from coercion. I remain opposed to the Bill and will vote against at 3rd Reading.

London. A meaningful and warm meeting with Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer. During our talks, we discussed the challenges facing Ukraine and all of Europe, coordination with partners, concrete steps to strengthen Ukraine’s position, and ending the war with a just peace, along with robust security guarantees. A principled statement of support from the Prime Minister and an important decision: today, in our presence, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed a Loan Agreement. This loan will enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities and will be repaid using revenues from frozen Russian assets. The funds will be directed toward weapons production in Ukraine. This is true justice – the one who started the war must be the one to pay. I thank the people and government of the United Kingdom for their tremendous support from the very beginning of this war. We are happy to have such strategic partners and to share the same vision of what a secure future should look like for all. 🇺🇦🇬🇧

Was it for this that the US spent 80 years building power and alliances? Not to be a force for good. But instead to impoverish neighbours, threaten those it protected, rob minerals from war-torn countries, and break its promises to 100s of millions of the poorest in the world? 🧵

I’ll say this as clearly as possible. We fail so many pupils because we use ineffective methods to teach them to read. Such as multi curing - look at the picture, guess the word Instead, we need a phonics first approach to early reading instruction. This has been evidenced time and time again. There are schools in England that have 100% of pupils passing the Phonics Screening Check. It is possible. Teach every child to read and believe me, these figures will quickly reduce.
