Rapid progress is the only acceptable progress for intervention at secondary school. Students need to progress at three or more times the normal rate.  Read more in our blog ‘Can’t Read, Won’t Read: Matthew Effects’ wp.me/p4hKgx-1u (4 min read).

It was an honour today to welcome federal Education Minister @JasonClareMP and Vic Education Minister @BenCarrollMP to @latrobe to see a demonstration of high quality explicit teaching courtesy of the fabulous team at @tempyheightsps led by principal @rhyssy33. The Year 4 students were the star of the show 🙌
With the Victorian Deputy Premier and Minister for Education @BenCarrollMP today at La Trobe Uni to see their simulated classroom for teaching students in action. This year we have changed what our future teachers are taught as part of their university degree. This includes a stronger focus on how the brain works, how to teach children to read and write and count, and how to manage classroom behaviour. La Trobe has led the way with the science of learning and evidence-based teaching. That is embedded in the new curriculum for teaching students and is a key part of the reforms we are rolling out across the country. This facility here at La Trobe is one of a kind in Australia and helps take that training to the next level.

If we want to make a child stressed, anxious or angry, all we have to do is leave them struggling with their reading. Teach them to read and everyone around them can see the difference.  If you'd like to see these changes for your pupils, contact us.

Our mission is to eradicate adolescent illiteracy. No student should leave school unable to read well, regardless of background. If you believe this too, we'd love to hear from you. thinkingreading.com/contact
