Great insights today on how charities, researchers and funders can work together more effectively — balancing independence, ownership and practical implementation. Honest conversations, clear findings, and real changes already taking shape. @hrbireland @MU_Business @HRCIreland

Yesterday I had the pleasure of closing the Research-for-Policy Conference 2025 hosted by Maynooth University, co-hosted with University College Dublin, and supported by the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, and many others. It was a day full of thoughtful insightful discussions. David Mair talked about the importance of getting the evidence in the right place, at the right time, and in the right way, so that it can be most effective, his points about the role of evidence in sustaining democracy stayed with me. Sarah Chaytor gave us an inspiring account of her experiences in developing the CAPE consortium and UPEN, with co-design, convening and connecting at the heart of this work. My conclusion is that research for policy is not only a technical exercise but one about people and trust building, whether developing the research, formulating the policies, or implementing them, people are the key part. Huge thanks to Professor Mark Boyle, Dr John O’Connor, and Seán Ó Foghlú from the Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute for their leadership in this work. @MaynoothUni @ucddublin @DeptofFHed @Researchirel #ResearchForPolicy #EvidenceInformedPolicy #MaynoothUniversity #UCD #ResearchImpact #Collaboration
