Bullet Rhythm - ROM 0.1b - Proof of Concept (POC) Bullet Rhythm for Mega Drive is a shoot 'em up and rhythm game that I started developing in early 2023. Still, I confess I dedicated very little time to it, so I think it's time to release something very preliminary to the public to test the community's reception and gather feedback. This ROM is completely free, and I consider it an experiment and proof of concept. This version uses pure YM2612, featuring third-party music, duly credited on the selection screen. The graphics and scenarios are simple, and so is the concept. Synchronization issues with the music and other details that may be bothersome will be noticeable. I tried some ways to automate the detection of FM music, either by converting to WAV and using some separate waveform detection techniques to generate a pre-recorded mapping, but the result was only reasonable for some songs, not being as efficient for songs with instruments and vocals. Given this scenario, I decided to revert to the previous method, where I directly read memory regions used by the XGM1 driver, which may cause a slight delay or may not always work as it should. For the future, I intend to rewrite the FM version's detection system to use a pre-recorded button mapping created by me, song by song, which should definitely solve the synchronization problems. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it, but I reiterate and ask that you be aware that version 0.1b in no way represents the final objective of this project; there is still much to be done. Note: If you are a composer for YM2612 and would like to participate in this project, feel free to contact me. Download here for FREE: patreon.com/posts/160437639 #SGDK #SEGAGenesis #MegaDrive

Bullet Rhythm FM for Mega Drive I managed to replicate the Bullet Rhythm technique from the PC to the Mega Drive, separating the music into WAV channels (beats, tones, and bass) and inserting them into an array. The difference is that I converted the FM songs used in the previous version to WAV format and followed the same procedure. The FM songs are from various artists who are properly credited on each track. There is no AI in this version. I believe I will soon release version 0.94 of Final Fight MD, and shortly thereafter (before or after), I will release Bullet Rhythm FM for the Mega Drive. Remember that both will be completely free. Note: I'm only using WAV to create the array. The game will be standard size up to 4MB and will not use MSU. #SGDK #BulletRhythm #MegaDrive #SEGAGenesis #Genesis

Eu vi minha esposa nesse vídeo... Sempre me incentivou com meus hobbies. Até terminou Streets of Rage 2 comigo em um Mega Drive real, sem emulação, usando o bom e velho CRT.

SGDK (Mega Drive) Game Ports to Other Platforms? I'm doing some brief testing to create a nearly fully functional SGDK wrapper for Raylib. I say nearly fully functional because there may still be some points that require changes. This opens up a range of possibilities to accelerate the porting of any Mega Drive project (that uses SGDK) to other platforms and, mainly, to include graphical and sound improvements. Possible platforms: - PC (Windows, Linux, MacOS) - Android - Raspberry Pi - PS Vita - Dreamcast - Playstation 2 - Nintendo 64 - Gamecube There are other platforms where Raylib has been ported, but it's not certain that the porting will be direct, as these are projects that haven't been updated in a while, and my code is based on the latest version. I'm not in a hurry with this extra development, but in any case, I'll say upfront that as soon as it reaches a certain level of maturity, the source code will be open source.

I love this game!!
Gauntlet IV for Mega Drive (by M2/Tengen/1993) has a dedicated "Arcade Mode" which is essentially an excellent port of the original 1985 arcade classic. Also it has great audio in general and supports 4-player co-op through the Sega Tap adapter. And finally, a massive Quest mode.

For now, I'm asking out of curiosity... Would anyone be willing to help me create a completely free and open-source version of FFMD? I would need pixel artists and musicians to compose for YM2612 to take on this challenge, but all without AI, only human effort. It's not paid at all. The goal would be to create a completely open-source engine, including free assets, but maintaining the gameplay of FFMD. I don't even know if this would be a good idea, but this possibility has crossed my mind.

Final Fight MD - First digital audio test This video summarizes some testing of the SEGA CD's CDDA format (also called MSU) on FFMD, but later I will also make it compatible with the MD standard. youtu.be/wuQzDNPqNBg?si=Ssq9…

(正論パンチはNo Thank Youです。ただの夢、妄想です)

Native PC games via Steam This past weekend, I ran several tests and managed to port Bullet Rhythm to native PC using Raylib with relative ease. Therefore, for all my original Mega Drive projects, I can now guarantee distinct versions with more features for PC via Steam, without any emulation. Note: I will soon publish a video showing the difference between the versions.

Bullet Rhythm - Os Pixels Não Foram Embora (Pt-Br) This is the first video showing a test of the Bullet Rhythm using MSU for the music. I intend to include the MD standard as well in the future. For better viewing and quality, watch in 1440p / 60 FPS. Note: The music was made by AI using the Suno 5.5 Pro, with lyrics entirely of my own authorship. These lyrics reflect the Brazilian reality during the golden age of 8-bit and 16-bit consoles. I will post the English version later, in which the lyrics reflect the global reality of that time compared to the present day. youtube.com/watch?v=TCiSy1re…

Development diary: Bullet Rhythm It's not easy fine-tuning the synchronization, and I'll still have to create a feature in the options menu for the user to adjust the beats, as there may be differences depending on where the game is being played (emulator type, screen type, CD-ROM drive seek time on the real hardware, etc.). On the first screen, the counters are for debugging and to help me fine-tune the enemy actions and the music beat. Yes, there will be songs in more than one language, including Brazilian versions. Who knows, maybe I'll make more than one version of the game with songs in separate languages? I can say that there are several songs where 100% of the lyrics are mine and others where I needed AI to help me with the rhymes in English, since it's not my native language, and I might pronounce it incorrectly, which generates strange rhymes (and this happened several times until I gave in). I hope to soon post not only a video but also a beta ROM demo on Patreon. This Mega Drive version will lead to another version for PC.

Bullet Rhythm: Testing with MSU / SEGA CD Using the CD audio quality, I believe I achieved the desired goal, and today I did my first test with the MSU standard, which can also be used by those who have a SEGA CD, but, at the moment, the cartridge will be indispensable, as I am not programming natively for the SEGA CD, only using the audio tracks. This experiment will automatically benefit future titles with optional audio tracks, including Final Fight MD (yes, finally, you can include the SEGA CD audio). Although I know some people don't like this, Bullet Rhythm will have its music tracks entirely made by AI (with complete or partial lyrics of my own authorship), and I want to make sure not to hide this fact. In short, the video shows only a premature embryo, being the first test of its kind. I hope you enjoy it.

Details about the next Final Fight MD release (0.94b) I'm focusing on fixing the bugs and strange behaviors of the last version, but I need to clarify how things will be from the next version onwards: - The source code will be released on GitHub, ready to be fully compiled with the latest version of the SGDK. - All ROM protection systems will be removed, and the game may even run without SRAM (thus disabling achievements and save games). - The itch io platform will also be used to distribute the binaries for free, but I will continue to accept spontaneous donations. I decided to adopt this approach before reaching version 1.0 because I'm tired of some comments about the project, especially regarding the donations I receive, as I never said since the start of my Patreon that it was specifically for Final Fight MD. Open-source code release is my way of giving back to everyone who believed in and supported this project, whether through donations, kind words, criticism, suggestions, promotion, or anything else that was important in keeping this flame alive. I will provide more details after the code is published. It may take me a few more days to adjust everything. I will continue developing Final Fight MD, but I will start talking more about Driftin' Rage and The Legend of Drakonnus, making these original projects more active in my programming journey during my free time.
