A regional diplomat briefed on developments tells @NBCNews that Qatari mediators have left Tehran after 17 hours of intensive negotiations. A deal has been reached, and separate preparatory meetings with each side will now take place in Doha this week, ahead of the official signing in Switzerland and the start of the technical talks.

I'm glad there is a deal and hopefully a cessation of violence. But I'm highly pessimistic that all sides view the agreement the same way, or will operate with good faith in adhering to specific elements of the deal.

I don't mean to be the skunk at the garden party, but I have minimal confidence that all sides see this agreement/deal in the same way. And the Iranians are emboldened, have leverage, and perceive themselves as victors in this conflict. Not a good recipe for a sustained solution.

There will be myriad areas where all sides involved DO NOT see eye to eye. Iran will interpret its control over Strait of Hormuz differently from the US. Israel will interpret its 'right' to strike Lebanon differently from Iran/US. Iran will see nuclear issue differently from US.

So look for a massive Israeli bombing campaign in Lebanon on Friday that will once again derail the signing of the deal because that's what Bibi does. Maybe we should stop broadcasting when a deal will be signed until after it's signed. Just a thought.
