This sounds like a late-game faction quest, except it somehow feels real now.
A company builds the best spaceships and says Earth is basically doomed.
Their offer: we’ll take humanity to a new planet and keep the species going.
One problem: not everyone gets a seat.
Only the groups they approve of can board, because apparently the new planet has “limited resources.”
Most people left behind are like: lol, sure.
Earth might not even be doomed. We don’t even know if the new planet is actually scarce. Maybe you’re just selling insanely expensive tickets and trying to own the only way out.
But some people can’t fully shake the fear.
So they start building slower little ships that anyone can use. They’re worse, riskier, and might get shoved aside by the giant ones, but at least nobody needs permission to get on.
And people root for them.
So what’s the call?
Trust the big ship because maybe the end really is coming?
Or back the messy little fleet because survival shouldn’t be permissioned?
Feels like this comes down to everyone’s deepest assumptions about risk, trust, and who gets to decide.
