A new Science study suggests that variables linked to socioeconomic status—such as increased stress and reduced sleep—have strong relationships to brain structure and function in children. The brain differences observed are unrelated to genetic ancestry, say the authors. They also may not be permanent. scim.ag/4ouWxcM

A spot-check of the JJAS seasonal climate outlook for most locations in North Rift shows persistent rainfall underperformance, with all global models in agreement & -ve precipitation anomalies dominating the charts. Here's a sample seasonal forecast for the region of Kitale.

Since February 2026, the models have consistently predicted below-average rainfall performance in the Rift, Western, Nyanza & even parts of Central #Kenya in the JJA season. GFS model paints a grim picture of extreme -ve anomalies this month in the said regions
Early forecasts for North Rift & Western do not look good for May-Aug season, from my analysis. I don't want to get you depressed this early haha

Do you see how the ensemble mean precipitation curve crosses over from the -ve side to the ve side of the Y-Axis numberline in October? And it keeps on rising from that point onwards...

Lafey FOB quick & simple solutions. However, the Interior Ministry is entirely run by civilians who have never made personal sacrifices or served this country in the field.
Three police officers were injured on Friday night after suspected Al Shabaab militants launched a coordinated attack on a Special Operations Group (SOG) camp in Fino, Lafey Sub County, Mandera County. Security reports indicate that the attackers stormed the camp under cover of night, opening fire as officers responded immediately to repel the assault. Police said the militants used Rocket Propelled Grenades and PKM machine guns during the attack, escalating the intensity of the confrontation. SOG officers engaged the attackers in a fierce firefight that lasted about 25 minutes before successfully forcing them to retreat. The injured officers were evacuated for medical treatment as security agencies launched a manhunt for the fleeing assailants. Authorities confirmed that additional security personnel have been deployed to the area as operations continue to track down the militants. Fino lies close to the Kenya Somalia border, a region that has repeatedly faced attacks attributed to suspected Al Shabaab fighters due to its strategic and porous frontier. The incident adds to a series of recent security breaches in Mandera County, where militants have attempted multiple attacks on security installations. Just days earlier, police in the same region foiled another attempted assault on the Jabi Quick Response Unit camp in Lafey Sub County after armed militants tried to overrun the facility but were repelled before breaching the base. The Special Operations Group, an elite multi-agency counter terrorism unit under the Border Patrol Unit, continues to work alongside intelligence agencies to secure Kenya’s northeastern border region.

Hermetic bags suit grains and pulses by creating airtight pest barriers, but onions need ventilated, cool, dry conditions in mesh bags or crates after curing to prevent moisture buildup and rot.

It's getting hotter literally. Farmers are lining up for special prayers beseeching their creator to have mercy on them. Their maize is under the verge of drying up completely if the sun continues unleashing it's wrath like it has done recently. Is it global warming, climate change or something that will pass. Kenyan FARMERS, a severe El Niño is forecast for Kenya from mid-2026 through Q1 2027, potentially worse than 1997. In '97, flooding killed 2,000 people, wiped out 300,000 ha of crops, and killed over 600,000 livestock. Here's a 14-step action plan. Start this week. 🧵
