No, she wouldn’t have much of a party left. If Albertans have been paying attention, they already know the answer. Premier Smith has overplayed her hand pushing hard for American-controlled O&G interests in Alberta. At this point it’s genuinely hard to tell if she’s riding genuine separatist energy, flirting with 51st state talk, or just running what Mark Carney called “one hell of a political bluff that looks a lot like Brexit.” Either way, she’s a classic political opportunist who’ll do whatever it takes to cling to power — even if it means serving foreign oligarch interests over Alberta’s actual priorities. IMHO.
