A helpful note for the angry and under-informed: The Refugee Resettlement Program just defunded by Trump has nothing to do with the southern border or illegal immigration. These are two different conversations.

If I allow a political ideology to dictate who deserves mercy or place conditions on it, I risk distorting my faith into an instrument of division and exclusion rather than a true reflection of God's boundless grace.

It isn't "sharing your faith" when you're using legislation to do it. That's "forcing your faith." Jesus never gave us the right to impose our religious beliefs on anyone. When it violates human free will and matters of conscience, it isn't about Jesus. It's about control.

Parents, if your child reports being sexually abused in your church, go to the police. Let them handle it. Don’t go to the church leadership. Just call the police. I hate to say this but don’t assume church leaders will do the right thing. Many of them are too weak & pathetic.

My politics are really simple. I just want everyone to have what they need and be free to live according to their own values. I don’t want my religion dictating your lives. I want my religion to teach me how to love you better. Let’s commit to each other and to love.

The back and forth between them tells us so much about their daily experience. These aren’t words spoken by coincidence. They are a reflection of the environment created by their parents through the consistency of their own actions and words. You can promote these same behaviors. Be consistently attentive. Be consistently kind - both in your interactions with your children and with others. Create consistent routines. For children, consistency = safety. It takes a lot of effort. There’s never a day off.
