I do love the smell of mapping in the Morning !
Always a privilege to Map with @swardley himself, a great start to the day and also his Birthday. Happy Birthday Simon
I have just realised I have been mapping for 8 years.
And, guess what, I must be a particularly slow learner as 7 years was not enough.
Frankly, I still do not see the end. Or... somebody lied :P.

X : How long does it take to learn Wardley mapping?
Me : For most people, about 7 years.
X : Seriously?
Me : Yep. It takes 6 years and 11 months spent going "I really need to learn this mapping stuff" and the last month actually doing it.
X : Is it worth it?
Me : Being a parent? Best thing ever. Just don't expect it to be all perfect and marvellous. It's going to be hard at times, maybe a lot of the time but it's worth it.
Me : ... you will feel overwhelmed, indequate and worried you'll mess things up. Again, that's normal. Things will go wrong. Normal also.
X : Any advice on what to avoid?
Me : Parents with perfect lives. They're either liars or psychopaths. A bit like perfect VPs.
Me : ... parenting is like that. You're going to feel panicked, out of your depth and you'll look in the mirror and go "what have I done". That's normal. Of course the entire field is full of bullshit gurus and people going on about how amazing their life is (more bullshit) ...
Me : ... which basically means a so so middle manager that no-one remembers, who holidays in wherever is the "latest thing", listens to the latest big consultant fad but has no real clue on what they are doing i.e. the entire industry is just bullshit?
X : Yes
Me : Well ...
I am excited to announce that I will be giving a talk

How would you explain to an average person (CEO, teacher, housewife, parent) how to identify that they are in complexity or facing a complex problem? I.e. how do you know something is complex? Without using any of the technical terms or jargon.
I do enjoy seeing this pattern times and times again - lift a constraint on a thing and experience hedonistic consumption of the thing (🧵).
Boardrooms no longer needed - lets fill our calendar three weeks in advance and cry we have no time to work ⌛ .

I spent a year, painstakingly building a testable hypothessis on the future of companies (you can read all about it here - leadingedgeforum.turtl.co/st… ) and then ...
