A few years back on my birthday, I hosted a big collab. I had started contacting everyone a month in advance, and had made sure with everyone around the time that they were good…
The collab comes and I am waiting, contacting everyone wondering where they were. In the end only 2-3 of the people actually came, the rest had only told me after I contacted them that they were not coming, had other plans or forgot. This is over 10 people, it was meant to be a big goose goose duck collab but we ended up having to change the game because there was not enough people for those plans.
I was on stream at the time too, trying to play it cool, even when I was deeply hurt. I thought that maybe it was just a massive coincidence or that I had not done enough. I ruminated on it for a long time. 🫠 Luckily I had other games I could play.
Either way, ever since, I have been extremely on top of collabs eve if I am afraid I will seem annoying, list of rules so no one gets uncomfortable and knows what to do if someone makes another uncomfortable(as I would collab with new people a lot back then),what is needed(like PNGs, links), keeping up a bit more regular with checking up if people are coming and the such, getting to know the group or collab partners.
Do you guys have any bad collab experiences?
My worst one was a couple years ago with a VTuber. We were supposed to play Valorant together, but something came up on their end. They canceled less than an hour before we were scheduled to go live. I get that emergencies happen, so I reached out to reschedule… and got completely ghosted. A short while later, they even unfollowed me.
We had similar-sized audiences, so it wasn’t like I was a nobody to them. I was just left hanging with nothing. I hope they were okay, but it definitely left a sour taste in my mouth.
