Unreal experience, spending some time with this female Ural owl in the forests of Norway 🇳🇴 after a failed attempt to see them in Estonia I was absolutely over the moon to finally see this stunning species 🦉

My most memorable and favourite video from my time in Norway 🇳🇴 insanely close views of this female Great Grey Owl, whilst getting some amazing footage of her I noticed she was starting to cough up a pellet! What a moment!!!!!!! I still have so much to share 🦉

Female Ural & Great Grey Owls alarm calling. Wednesday saw my first check of the year for breeding owls north of Oslo. There is uncertainty as to whether it’s a good year & there are definitely local variations but I found single GG and Ural at nest sites which is a good start.

💥Penduline Tit 💥 First lifer of 2026 and absolutely over the moon with the views we got of the Avon Penduline tits!! Watching them feed at close range more than made up for the disaster of the day we was having up to this point dipping the Kentish Plover at Burnham

Great morning with @kristianwade_ doing some proper winter birding, scanning through hundreds of pinks at @WWTMartinMere, had some luck with close views of a White front and a Barnacle, sadly still not caught up with the Brent yet!!

Nice few Patch ticks today✅, showy Spoonbill on the Mere and then watched the Short-eared owl at last light which was special as I hadn’t seen one on the reserve for over 10 years, dipped the Brent that was reported scanned the pinks for hours but no joy, great day out!

Looking back at some memories from 2025, 25 lifers and some memorable twitches with friends new and old, loads of good birding experiences, really enjoyed my patch list in 2025 now up to 85 species, sadly no overseas trips this year but already have some booked in for 2026!

Gutted to have dipped the Welsh Bufflehead today, seemed I left it a day late 😩 good to have a catch up with @ParkyBirder either way! Jealous of you all that have managed the amazing views and pictures in previous days! Would have been Christmas come early but wasn’t to be 😂

Bit more of the 1st -winter Grey Phalarope at Brougham, initially I was really worried as I didn’t have my scope with me, just my bins and camera! As you can see my worries soon faded 😂 @BirdGuides @cumbriabirds @CumbriaBirdClub

So excited to have just seen my first Hummingbird Hawkmoth ever! In work of all places! Been a dream species for me to see for years and never had much luck! What a way to cheer up a work day. My next big goal is to attract them to my garden!

Epic day around Wykeham today with two lifers, first the Elusive Ortolan Bunting ✅ which showed well at close distance but always very briefly, such a frustrating bird, then on too the viewpoint without much luck, then ended the day with stunning views of a Turtle Dove ✅
