The abduction of journalist Khurram Ansari over a tweet is unacceptable and must be condemned. The video in question was aired by state broadcaster Pakistan Television Corporation and carried by mainstream news channels it was not “fake.” Using threats of PECA and targeting a journalist for sharing publicly broadcast content is intimidation, not accountability. He has been released now after journalist bodies raised their voices, but the act itself raises serious concerns. Punjab Government must explain and ensure such actions are never repeated. Press freedom cannot be treated as a crime.
