I’m sure a lot of other Computing teachers in Scotland now looking at alternatives now that @Replit are deprecating Edu Teams as of tomorrow. Made such a great product and now the rug being pulled out midway through the academic year… @CompSciScot @stacshq

Current thinking is Thonny for S1/2 perhaps. Pycharm for N5 and a MySQL server for AH

@pycharm may be a good one for Higher and Adv Higher pupils. Unsure as to whether the free licenses are available for schools?

And now @Replit your getting rid of Team for Edu effectively immediately, with no consultation. All because teachers requested the ability to turn off the AI, so we could teach our students to code. Not the news you want to hear in the middle of an academic year.

@Replit Why the huge increase in price?
$74 I could justify to keep material private from learners, and ensure assessments were secure. But $220 is not justifiable. Any chance of a middle ground between Starter & Core?

Unless the @replit AI can be disabled in teams for Edu looking to alternatives for teaching. Looking at probably back to IDLE (S1-S4) and PyCharm for H and AH. Probably just MySQL for DB - all free options but is anyone using alternatives?

Higher is maybe a bit more safer standard algorithms as it seems the AI generation relies (sensibly) on predefined functions etc. but file read/write is fairly as i would teach it :-(
