The key finding of the report is that energy transition alone will not suffice. We need to combine it with "sufficiency" to stay within 2 degrees. This includes labour hour reductions, growth caps in rich countries, less material consumption, and changes in food habits.
Community note
This report uses a ~4.8°C baseline. In May 2026, the U.N. climate panel officially retired this scenario (RCP8.5) as "implausible." Updated projection: ~3.5°C. Sources: NYT & Washington Post, May 2026. nytimes.com/2026/05/26/cli… washingtonpost.com/climate-enviro… lemonde.fr/en/environment…

Apparently it is @Iberia policy to kick paying customers off flights if they overbook instead of offering compensation for those willing to rebook

New from @MarkLutter and I in @palladiummag: Urban mismanagement and burdensome regulation are twin killers for American innovation. New cities built on federal land can spark an economic renaissance. It's time to build the Presidio Freedom City.

Great to see SEZ-based investments become a key American foreign policy tool. The Philippines also has a unique history in this space. Starting in the 1990s at Subic Bay, and now at former Clark Air Base, they've successfully transformed two former US bases into thriving SEZs.
Today we announced plans for a historic 4,000-acre Economic Security Zone in the Philippines—the first AI-native investment acceleration hub under Pax Silica. This purpose-built platform will secure inputs vital to American supply chains and transform how allies manufacture together.

Silicon Valley's culture makes it somewhat uniquely poor at governing - Memetic: SF chases the new big thing, governing requires longer term planning, execution, and stability - Growth: Governing is a low margin industry, SF focuses on growth over effective execution -Openness: Politics is a zero sum game, high openness people will get taken advantage of

The war in Iran is pretty dumb. However, it's interesting to see Trumps negotiation strategy given the current state of the conflict. Hopefully the off ramp works!
